Set up: link your phone to your PC, step by step

1Install the app and scan the code

Install Aimllama on your phone, open the Windows app, and point your phone’s camera at the big square code on the monitor. Tap the link that pops up — the two are now paired. That’s the whole pairing.

2Unlock Developer mode (one-time)

The low-latency controls need a switch Android keeps behind a hidden door. Open Settings → About phone (on some phones About device → Version) and tap Build number seven times. Android counts down and says “You are now a developer!” — that’s it, nothing else changes on your phone.

3Turn on USB debugging, plug in once

Now Settings → System → Developer options (it just appeared). Turn on USB debugging, connect the cable, and tap Allow on the phone when it asks about the computer. While you’re here, also switch on Stay awake — some phones drop the connection when the screen sleeps.

4Cut the cable: Wireless debugging

Same list, one row further: turn on Wireless debugging. Phone and PC just need to be on the same Wi-Fi.

Then pair, once. Switching the toggle on is not yet a connection — Android only talks to a device it has been introduced to. The phone app does the introduction: on its Devices page tap Pair this phone. On the Wireless debugging page that opens, tap Pair device with pairing code, then pull down the Aimllama notification and type the six-digit code into it while the code is still on screen. That pairs the phone with itself — which is also what lets it play with no PC at all — and a PC you link afterwards uses the same pairing, so it connects without asking. Would rather pair from the PC? In the Windows app open Devices → Pair over Wi-Fi and scan its QR with Pair device with QR code, or type the address and code from Pair device with pairing code into that page. After that the phone connects by itself whenever both are on the Wi-Fi; from now on the cable is only a backup.
